FAQs

What kind of photographer are you?

I am a lifestyle photographer. My style is natural and sentimental and my main focus is to capture genuine images for you to treasure for a lifetime. Typically this style includes movement, loving gestures, and often visual storytelling. Lifestyle photography means going beyond stiff and boring photography to capture the true personality behind the people I am capturing. I will never force your children to look at the camera and I ask that you do not either.

Do you reschedule for overcast?

No. I do not reschedule for overcast, but I may ask to move the session time up a little. I do reschedule for weather if I feel that I cannot give you the best possible images in the current weather conditions.

What is your turn-around time?

Typically 2-3 weeks, however during busy seasons it may take longer. I do keep my clients in the loop and updated as much as I can.

Do you do mini sessions?

YES! I typically do Christmas mini sessions for existing clients who are on my e-mail list. If you want to be in the know for my mini sessions I strongly suggest you get on my e-mail list :)

How do you choose which images to include in the gallery from my shoot?

I look carefully at each and every image captured at your session and hand select the best images.  I am looking for images that represent me as an artist and your family, as each family is amazingly unique.  I guarantee a minimum of 15 images, but you will always have the option to purchase more photos. I do not deliver unedited or RAW images to anyone so please don’t ask.

Where will my session be held?

I am a natural light, on location photographer.  Together we will choose the perfect location for your session.  Newborn sessions are held in the comfort of your home. Child milestone birthday sessions have the option of a session in-studio with white backdrop.

How far out are you booked?

I typically book one to three months in advance. If you are interested in newborn portraits, please inquire while you are pregnant. I like to do newborn sessions within the first three weeks of life. For busy seasons like spring and fall I recommend scheduling as early as possible. I do not have availability the week of to do a photoshoot and it breaks my heart to tell people no.

Walmart Photo vs. Professional Print Lab?

WHERE you get your photos printed is just as important as WHO shoots your photographs in the first place.  When you use a professional printing lab, you have trained technicians who monitor the quality of the chemicals in their printers, analyze the color and density in the photographs, do regular maintenance on their machines, and check the print quality.  You’ve just invested in a professional photographer to take amazing photos of you and your family.  Make sure that those incredible photos you’ve seen in the online photo gallery are just as incredible when you bring them home. I provide the option to order any prints from a Professional Printing Lab directly from your gallery.

What should I wear for my photo session?

One of the most fun parts of preparing for your session is planning what you will wear. This is a great opportunity to express who you are!  Sometimes just the thought of putting outfits together can be stressful, but trust me, you do not need to stress.  While I don’t specifically style my families, I do like to offer some basic tips to help you in preparing your outfits.  My clients do have access to my personalized Amazon List which includes outfit ideas & inspo!

1. Be yourself!  Lifestyle photography is meant to be authentic and one of the ways you can make sure to do that is by wearing something that represents you.  Don’t make your husband wear a button-down shirt if he hates them.  Don’t wear a dress if you’re not a dress person.  You can absolutely dress your best and still be in your own style.

2.) Coordinate - don't match.   Choose colors that complement each other.  Neutral colors such as black, white, off-white, and navy photograph beautifully.  I highly recommend avoiding logos, graphics and bright fluorescent colors.  The bright colors reflect back and make your face fluorescent too.

3.) Don’t combine more than one pattern.  Typically only one family member should wear a pattern.  I always suggest mom choose her outfit first.  She should choose something she feels beautiful in and then build the family’s outfits around hers.

4.) Dress in layers. Layers such as scarfs, hats, cardigans, tights, blazers, and jackets add interest but can also easily be removed if too warm.

5.) Shoes and accessories are important too. A great outfit with old, dirty shoes won't look as good. Necklaces and headbands can add a pop of color too.

6.)  Create a Pinterest Board! Pinterest has sooo many clothing ideas for complimenting colors!!! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions!
